Evening course “Linux Introduction Course (English)”, Summer 2022

Need to use Linux for your PhD/M.Sc./SHK work or privately? Are you using the OMNI cluster or another supercomputer? Never used Linux before? Then this is the course for you.

  • Using the command line
  • The ideas behind concepts like users, files, processes and permissions
  • Navigating the Linux directory structure
  • Handling text and other files from the console
  • The vim text editor
  • Automating tasks with shell scripting

Although this course is open to everyone, it is primarily geared towards cluster users. That means that neither Graphical User Interfaces nor topics that require root access (e.g. installation, administration) are covered. All topics covered are distro-independent.

Target Audience:
Students and Employees who are complete Linux newbies
Prerequisites:
We will be using the cluster for the exercises, but it is not necessary to have cluster access beforehand.
